Hello and welcome to this forum about controlling behavior.
This is a place for people to meet to discuss issues relating to the subject. The objective is to educate and that education is extended to teachers, teaching assistants and police officers who come into contact with domestic abuse.
Controlling behavior is something conducted by another person which may effect family members to include the spouse and or the children.
Some controlling behavior involves various types of abuse - to include verbal, physical and emotional.
Much of the time this behavior is conducted out of sight of the general public, often families seem pretty normal to the outsider. It can 'creep up' in a relationship and victims begin doubting themselves.
Furthermore, since the perpetrator of control can appear particularly normal in real life - being told by a victim that (s)he is being abused is hard for others to comprehend and met with disbelief and surprise.
Sometimes control can seen like a phenomena - it has cult-like qualities and can be destructive.
Control can also be subtle, it might be the case that the controlled doesn't realize what is happening but intuition starts nagging that something is wrong. Intuition doesn't have a volcabulary, hopefully people in this forum can help put meaning and understanding of their personal situation to start a process of helping them recover.
Control is not limited to family life (it might be) but there are some with controlling personalities which bring it to work with them.
The purpose of this forum is to bring comfort, not fear. Not to become amateur psychologists but to discuss openly matters on the mind of victims.
This forum is not a substitute for getting professional help but hopefully offer some direction.
The invitation is extended to authors and specialists who can help "keep us on track" bring reason and comfort to those victims who feel they are loosing their minds and hurt by the behaviors of others.
If you have any suggestions for related topics and would like further boards created then please pm the administrator.
Finally, may I ask that you don't post personal details which could identify yourself, children or adults. Also please lets avoid offence.
Thank you for visiting.
